A Humble Disagreement, Part 1

A Humble Disagreement, Part 1

Introduction

This piece was inspired by a young, beautiful woman I matched with on Bumble. I will keep her name a mystery simply because she knows who she is. The hope of the following strings of arguments will be a humble contribution to the over-arching conversation on the following topic:

Can faithful Christians vote for Donald Trump and maintain integrity in their Christian convictions?

From the outset, I will argue yes and lay my justification for my position:

But, as I do so, could you keep the following in mind? This is not written in malice or contention but in a lowly and earnest desire to present an objective alternative perspective with the hope of broadening the outlook and perspective of others with this desired end:

Authentic tolerance and not the façade of it.

A repudiation of lies for those who live by them.

The eradication of groupthink and the resurrection of thinking critically.

Elon Musk said it best:

“What I care about is the reality of goodness, not the perception of it. And what I see all over the place is people who care about looking good while doing evil, …[expletive]”. Elon Musk

Context—Let Your Boy Spill The Tea

So, recently, I created a Bumble profile; why? Just to put myself out there. I rarely go out, and the places I frequent lack female dating prospects. So, If I ever find a wife, I must be more intentional about it. So! I created a Bumble profile. It has been quite the experience thus far, and I even locked in a match. The lady was just my type: black, light-skin complexion, long curly hair, beautiful smile, speaks two languages, English and Spanish, and is a dual citizen, Canadian and American– and most importantly! Her profile says she is Christian (Let's Go!!!). We’re off to a good start; we went from texting to exchanging audio messages, and our conversation possessed depth. But soon and in a hurry, our connection went off the rails. What happen!!? You ask, I'll tell you, my political choices happened. Due to my responses, she began to realize I’m conservative; she even used the term "right-wing.” She expressed interest in who I voted for (As soon as I saw this! I knew this was Dead on arrival). I freely shared anyway.

"I voted for Donald J. Trump". From the vibe, this was not a good thing to say, especially if I desired things to advance further. But I have to stay true to the truth and not sugarcoat anything. My vote ended my dating prospects early.

She shared the following:

"Trump is the antithesis of all Christ teachings.” Be careful of the scales and veils of what may seem comfortable and sensible in this world. Be wary of confusing political decisions with the Kingdom of Heaven. Cross-reference with the Gospels, and ask Him to reveal the truth."

"I appreciate your time and energy and that you are a mindful young person seeking to seriously align your life with Yeshua. Refreshing! But I'm sorry, my friend. It's not a match between us dating wise."

-Sincerely, that Bumble Lady

This is rich! There is soooo much here. We will get into it. But until then, more context.

More Context

To pedestrians (The unengaged or uninformed), the current dating scene is rough! It’s a dark, dry, uninhabitable place (lol). To give a proper idea, the dating scene mirrors the film "The Book Of Eli" starring Denzel Washington; no joke, it’s that dire fam. It's one thing dating in California as a man; it’s tough and even more challenging as a Christian. I'm not complaining. Many call it quits due to the difficulty, but I'm no quitter.

YouTube is littered with videos detailing modern dating obstructions, and this is on both sides, both women and men. From content like "Pop the Ballon,” "Kendra G," "Manosphere Highlights Daily," "Emilywking,” "Chantelle Simonne," and I could go on, there are so many YouTube channels that focus on the topic of modern dating and the issues of the opposite sex. It’s endless, some better than others.

Yet, as I am in the arena, I have made several observations. I may elaborate on that at a later date, but today, I want to focus on Trump.

One thing that I have noticed on the Bumble site is the outright disdain for Donald Trump. I have seen the following regularly:

"No Donald Trump Supporters," or If you voted Trump, swipe left. Hey, it is what it is. I live in California, and it's expected; it's a liberal state. But to see this from women who say they are Christian is baffling.

A Quick Word About Trump

Now, do I believe Donald Trump is a saint and his example ought to be modeled verbatim? No. But as my brother told me, "Dig for the gold." No matter the individual, there is gold to be mined for, and this goes for anyone. There are some great things about Trump, especially in light of the alternative. Please reflect on this idea—what is the alternative? Let that marinate. WHAT IS THE ALTERNATIVE?

Now, from what I can observe, I don't believe Donald Trump is a Christian. But this doesn't disqualify him from being an instrument the LORD can use. There are many examples of this in the Bible of the LORD using rulers who were outside His covenant with Israel. Who were these rulers? These were men like Cyrus the Great, Nebuchadnezzar, and Darius the Mede. These rulers were not a part of God's covenant people, or they were not Christians, so to speak. And yet the LORD still used them to bring good to His people.

My argument is that Trump is a similar figure. Although I don't believe him to be a Christian, this doesn't disqualify him from being an instrument in the hand of the LORD. Also, voting for Him is not inconsistent with my Christian beliefs and convictions; instead, I will assert that my vote is consistent with my beliefs and convictions. Now, do I agree with everything that comes with Trump? No. We rarely agree with everything one person says. I don't agree with some of my mother’s positions, but I love her to the utmost. And dear reader, I'm sure you can identify; think about that. Those who you would consider the most beloved to you, is there anything on which you disagree? And if so, is that particular subject worth removing them from your life?

I don't think so.

Also, to add this vital detail, who is governing in a way that is a friend to Christians, and who is governing in such a way that is at war with Christ and His people?

Bottomline: is it Trump or the alternative? (Think about this objectively)

I will bookmark this here and start part two shortly. The above is enough to grapple with. Part two of those arguments is coming soon.
